Hello and welcome to our little slice of heaven.
We are Rob and Mel Hughes and we live on a 10 acre smallholding in the beautiful North Wales countryside.
The smallholding is home to ourselves, three dogs, lots of goats, a few pigs, a flock of laying hens, turkeys and three geese, who all live in reasonable harmony!
We moved to Cherry Orchard in July 2017. The house and land were quite run down and we are in the long process of restoring and repairing the 250 year old house, fencing the fields and starting a woodland management programme. In spring 2019 we cleared old and dangerous trees and replanted over 150 native saplings to regenerate the wood for future generations to enjoy.
The land is part meadow and part natural woodland and the unique topography of the holding has been shaped over hundreds of years. Originally owned by Chirk Castle as a tenanted farm the holding was sold off with many other castle properties in the early 1900’s. There is still evidence of stone quarrying in Goat’s Wood and old maps show the existence of long lost farm buildings near the house. Craters at the far end of Buzzard’s Meadow date from WW2 when bombs were dropped as planes followed the river Dee towards Liverpool.
Our land is a hidden valley with steep wooded banks to one side and undulating meadow to the other. Whilst only minutes from the A5 we are totally hidden from view, surrounded by farmland and woodland on all sides and is perfectly suited for secluded, hideaway pitches where you can relax!
Due to the nature of the site the land is not level and we ask you to bear in mind that access to the pitches is restricted and there are various gradients across the site. Please see our FAQ for further information.
